Questions and answers

The exam

Is this the official exam app?

No. The exam is run by the Centre for Slovene as a Second and Foreign Language (CSDTJ) at the University of Ljubljana. Besedica is independent: it is not affiliated with the centre or approved by it.

Will this app make me pass?

We can’t promise that, and nobody honestly can. To pass at A2 you need at least 60% of the points in each of the exam’s 4 parts; B1 needs 85%. The app’s practice follows those parts and shows how much you’ve practised each one, so you can see what needs work.

The app

Does it work offline?

Yes. Every lesson and exercise works with no connection.

What happens to my voice?

Your speech is recognised on your phone. Recordings are deleted after each answer unless you choose to keep them, and nothing is sent to us for speech.

Can I type instead of speaking?

Yes. Every exercise that asks you to speak lets you type your answer instead.

Is there an iPhone version?

Not yet. Besedica is built for Android first; an iPhone version is planned for later.

Who checks the Slovene?

The lessons are drafted, then checked by our content checks: every Slovene word form is checked against Sloleks, the reference lexicon of Slovene word forms. A qualified teacher of Slovene as a second language will review the course.

Price

What's free?

Besedica isn’t on Google Play yet. When it is, it will be free to download and the first A1 units will be free; one payment unlocks the course to A2.

Is it a subscription?

No. You pay once. B1 is planned as a later upgrade.

Privacy

Do you collect data about me?

The app asks before it collects any usage statistics, and works fully if you say no. This website has no analytics and sets no cookies; its privacy notice says what Cloudflare, which serves the site, handles when you visit.
